Medicare in Star Valley

What is actually available in Lincoln County

Eight Medicare Advantage plans are offered in Lincoln County for 2026, and every one of them is a PPO — there is no HMO option in this county. Wyoming has eleven stand-alone Part D prescription drug plans for the same year.

County availability is not the same as state availability, and it changes every year. We compare what is actually sold here against Original Medicare with a Medigap plan, so you are choosing between real options rather than a brochure.

Care close to home

Lincoln County has two critical access hospitals — Star Valley Health in Afton and South Lincoln Medical Center in Kemmerer. Both are Medicare certified. About 3,919 county residents are 65 or older, roughly 19.1% of the population.

Which plans cover those two hospitals, your doctors and your prescriptions is the whole question. We check each option against all three before recommending anything, and we stay on the file after you enroll.

Common questions

What Star Valley asks about Medicare.

Yes. Huhn Insurance is licensed across Wyoming, so Afton, Thayne, Alpine and the rest of Lincoln County are inside our normal service area. We work by phone, by video and in person, and we stay available year round rather than only during enrollment.

Eight are offered for 2026, and all eight are PPOs. That is a smaller field than a Wyoming resident in a larger county sees, which makes the comparison against Original Medicare with a Medigap plan more important here than it is in a city.

Star Valley Health in Afton is a Medicare-certified critical access hospital, and whether a specific plan covers it depends on that plan's network. Checking your hospital, your doctors and your prescriptions against each option is the first thing we do, before any recommendation.

The Annual Enrollment Period runs October 15 through December 7 each year, and changes take effect January 1. People on a Medicare Advantage plan also get a window from January 1 through March 31. Certain life events open a Special Enrollment Period outside those dates. We can tell you which applies to you.

Carriers build broker compensation into the plan, so your premium is the same whether you enroll on your own or with us. Medicare commissions are set by CMS and paid by the carrier. How we are paid is disclosed in writing up front.
