Your Medicare Review

Which applies to you?

Your answers guide us on your situation so we can show you what matters most.

Step 1 of 5
Things to Consider

Keeping Employer Coverage

  • If you have creditable coverage, you don't have to start Part B until you retire or lose benefits.
  • Compare your total out-of-pocket exposure under your employer plan versus available Medicare options. We'll walk through the specifics during your appointment after your Scope of Appointment is signed.
  • Talk with your HR — you may be able to keep your supplemental plans (dental, vision, life, etc.) while switching your health plan to Medicare.
  • Compare your current monthly contributions against estimated Medicare premiums to see which path saves you money.
Things to Consider

Losing your employer coverage

  • You will need a letter from HR on business letterhead with your full name stating you are losing coverage on a specific date — Medicare will ask for it when you sign up for Part B.
  • Once you sign up for Medicare, it takes about 3 weeks to get your card. At that point you will sign up for any supplemental plans.
  • Sign up for Medicare and supplemental plans by the end of the month you are losing coverage for continuous coverage.
  • Your Medicare and supplemental plans will take effect the 1st of the following month.

Important Reminder

Your current individual or family plan

Do not cancel your current individual/family plan until your Medicare plans are approved.

Once Medicare is active, we'll guide you through the cancellation so you're never without coverage.

Your next step is Medicare enrollment first

It looks like you may need to sign up for Medicare Parts A and B before moving forward with plan review.

Marketplace Plans / Short Term Health Plans

Marketplace plan basics

Marketplace plans are major medical health plans available during Open Enrollment or through a Special Enrollment Period.

We currently assist with Marketplace plans in 4 states:

  • Wyoming, Montana, and Texas: Open Enrollment runs November 1 through January 15
  • Idaho: Open Enrollment runs October 15 through December 15

If you are outside Open Enrollment and do not qualify for a Special Enrollment Period, a short-term health plan may be another option to consider.

Before you move forward

If you are not currently in Open Enrollment and do not qualify for a Special Enrollment Period, you may want to explore a short-term health plan.

Marketplace Plans

Enrollment Rules
Enrollment is available only during Open Enrollment or if you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period.
Essential Benefits
Covers ACA 10 essential health benefits.
Pre-Existing Conditions
Cannot deny coverage based on pre-existing health conditions.
Dollar Limits
Insurance companies cannot place dollar limits on essential health benefits for Marketplace plans.
Effective Date
Coverage generally begins on the first of the month following enrollment.

Short Term Health Plans

Enrollment Rules
Enrollment is available year-round.
Essential Benefits
Not required to cover ACA essential health benefits.
Pre-Existing Conditions
Coverage may be denied based on pre-existing health conditions.
Dollar Limits
Insurance companies may set annual and lifetime dollar limits on short-term plans because they are not considered individual major medical insurance under the Affordable Care Act.
Effective Date
Coverage may begin the next day or on a date you choose.

Under-65 Coverage Notice

Huhn Insurance is a licensed health insurance brokerage. We are not endorsed by the U.S. government, HealthCare.gov, or any federal or state-based Marketplace.

Outside of Open Enrollment, you may be able to enroll in or change Marketplace coverage only if you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period (SEP). SEP availability and timing depend on the qualifying event and applicable Marketplace rules, and often involve a 60-day window before or after the event.

Eligibility, plan availability, and effective dates are reviewed individually during your appointment. We do not publish plan-specific details on this page.

Before Huhn Insurance assists with or facilitates a Marketplace application or enrollment on your behalf, you will be asked to provide documented consent describing the scope, purpose, and duration of that assistance, consistent with 45 C.F.R. § 155.220.

Huhn Insurance does not guarantee eligibility, approval, rates, plan availability, or effective dates.

Huhn Insurance is licensed in Wyoming, Idaho, Montana, Colorado, Texas, and California. Availability of services depends on applicable licensing, registration, and Marketplace rules.
